Trace fossils record the activity or behavior of organisms rather than their physical bodies.
Footprints and Trackways Impressions left by feet or limbs in soft sediment that later lithified.
Burrows and Borings Tunnels, holes, or galleries created by animals in sediment, wood, or rock.
Coprolites Fossilized feces, which provide valuable information about ancient diets and ecosystems.
Other Traces Examples include gastroliths (stomach stones), bite marks, root traces, and feeding trails.
